Personal Branding Shoot – Menovibrant

Personal Branding Photography

I had the great pleasure of photographing Nona’s Personal Branding for her new business venture MenoVibrant. MenoVibrant is a healthy lifestyle website aimed at helping women going through the menopause with tips on exercise and healthy eating. I for one cannot wait for Nona to launch her website as I am that woman!

As well as MenoVibarnt, Nona runs a non for profit running club near Peterborough, Sawtry Walk to Run. Her love for running came about when Nona started her weight loss journey 3 years ago. She put a shout out on a local Facebook forum looking for other likeminded women who wanted to start running. She was inundated with other women just like herself who wanted to tone up, start running for health reason. Over 30 women turned up! And thats how the running club was born.

Nona really is such an inspiration and I wanted to make sure her massive personality and love for life came through in her images. Nona needed a mix of images for her different hats she wears. We chose several locations to fit the brief as well as outfits that were on brand and show Nona’s bright and cheery personality.

To help Nona prepare for her Personal Branding session I sent her my free guide “Planning for your Personal Branding Shoot”. This free guide is sent to all my clients when they book a session with me. 14 pages full of tips on what props to bring, location ideas, what to wear and so much more.

At the time of writing this post, Nona’s website is still under construction but do keep checking back as I know it goes live very soon.

Personal Branding Shoot – Edie and Chalk

Personal Branding Photographer

Even us Photographers need a Personal Branding Shoot. Katie from Edie and Chalk contacted me through instagram to book me for her shoot. Katie is a designer and photographer based in Chew Magna near Bristol. She is a lover for all things Scandi and this showed in her props she bought to her shoot. I love learning about your business and the heart of why you do what you do. This helps me take portrait images that represent who you are at a deeper level. Katie is a quiet soul, a calming person with a huge heart.

Working with another photographer, Katie understands the importance for good natural light. The location she chose was an artist friends home that had huge windows and flooded the room with lots of beautiful soft light, a photographers dream lighting!

Props are a really important part of your brand. Choose props that you use daily in your work, that are a part of who you are ie: coffee mug, notebooks, laptop, mobile phone , work tools. Katie bought along lots of beautful props in her brand colours and influences of Scandi. Edie and Chalk were about to celebrate their first birthday and Katie bought a huge hellium balloon for a prop. Such a fun way to show up on your social media celebrating important milestones in your business. Katie came along with soft pastel hues of flowers in her brand colours from Is a Bloom Floral Design as well as framed prints and furinture in her beloved scandi style. Flowers are a wobnderful accessory for a shoot, perfect to add softness to a flat lay, used when styling a table and of c

Capturing you behind the scenes is a big part of a Personal Brand Shoot. You can see here images of Katie at work with her camera and styling props for an image she photographed.

Working with Katie was alot of fun, such a joy to work with another photographer.

How to Prepare for your Personal Branding Photo Shoot

How to Prepare for your Personal Branding Photo Shoot

Personal Branding Photographer Frome

You have found your photographer, contracts signed and shoot day is upon you. Preparation is key for a successful shoot for both photographer and client. When you book a Personal Branding Photography session with me I will send out a detailed guide to prepare you for your shoot. In the meantime here is my check list to help you prepare for a Personal Brand Photography session.

  • First things first you need to find a photographer whose work you like and book them ( check out this blog post here )
  • Send your photographer a Pinterest board of the style of images and locations that you would like. Include posing ideas as well.
  • Select what you are going to wear. Keep it simple, wear what feels most comfortable and add some accessories that are your brand colours. This is the time to book makeup and hair appointments too. ( check out my blog post here ).
  • Choose locations where you are most comfortable and that represent your brand . Think about coffee shops, your office space, local neighbourhood for example. Good lighting is key, your photographer can advise on locations too. Send addresses of locations to your photographer in advance so they can check out best spots for your shoot.
  • Think about props you want to bring with you. Mobile phone, laptop, notebooks and pens are great everyday props. Bring the tools of your trade along too ( if possible!)
  • Ask your photographer when you can expect your photos to be ready and how they will be delivered.

Shoot day is here , pack your bag with your props and clothing. Water to keep you hydrated and maybe some snacks. Most of all don’t forget to enjoy yourself!

I hope this series on Personal Brand Photography has been useful for you when considering booking a photographer.

What to Wear on your Personal Branding Photo Shoot

What to Wear on your Personal Branding Photo Shoot

What do I wear to my Personal Branding Photography shoot ? is a question I get asked a lot. Hopefully this blog post will help take the stress out of what to wear on your shoot. What  you wear on shoot day is a reflection of your brand and personality, so choose wisely. Wear clothes that convey what you want your clients to feel. Bring wardrobe options ; a casual relaxed look and then maybe a dressier outfit that you would wear to meet clients. What you wear is a reflection on your brand and professionalism. Below are my tips on what to wear and what NOT to wear on the day.

Tips for choosing your outfit :

  • Choose 2 -3 outfits. A great place to start is choose what represents your work. Choose pieces that match your brand aesthetic. Is your brand modern, feminine, free-spirited, casual, sporty. For example if  you are a yoga teacher dressing in your yoga gear and casual clothes would suit your brand. Use layers to help achieve some different looks ; jacket ,cardigan, jumpers.
  • Choose on brand colours that represent your personality. One of my brand colours is a grey, I would select some grey clothing and the dusty pink in my brand colours.
  • Accessorise !! Select jewellery, scarves, hat, sunglasses that can add some interest to your outfit. Scarves and jewellery are a great way to change an outfit up.
  • Avoid large distracting patterns and logos. Vertical strips are a no no as they do not photograph well. Wearing solid colours works well , add accessories to add a splash of colour and interest to an outfit.
  • Try on your clothes. You want to feel comfortable, so make sure your outfits are not ill fitting /too tight/too big. Walk and move around in them.
  • If you wear glasses choose non reflective lenses to avoid glare.

5 Questions you should be asking your Personal Branding Photographer

personal brand photography

So you have started marketing yourself and your brand in your own unique way. You want your brand to come across engaging , exciting and different from the rest of the competition. You want to put the task of capturing the essence of you and your brand into the capable hands of a professional personal branding photographer. But how do you know if the photographer you are looking at hiring is any good?  Here are my 5 must have questions you should be asking your Personal Brand Photographer.

Portfolio and Specialisation

  • Firstly , have they shot personal branding before ? Ask to have a look at some samples of their work and see if their style suits your brand. Not every Personal Branding Photographer is going to be a perfect fit for you. Personal Branding Photography is quite different to shooting a wedding or a family. You want to hire someone who understand your brand and vision and who you will be comfortable up close and personal with.

Location or Studio

  • Do they shoot in natural light or a studio ? Both options will give you a completely different feel to your final images. Natural light is suited much more to a lifestyle feel , relaxed images. You can choose different locations like a coffee shop, favourite park that will give your images some personality. Studio can have a much more corporate feel to your images. Make sure you understand the style of images you want to create.

What’s Included

  • How much do you charge and what is included ? This is so important to understand what your money covers. Does it include props, editing your images, travel to locations. How many photos will I get ? Make sure you fully understand what you are paying for.

Creative Collective Bath

Process

  • What does the process look like ? I believe in meeting my clients and asking them to fill in a branding questionnaire to help me understand what their needs are and the values of their brand. It is so important that your photographer understands you and your business.

Visualisation

  • Will they send a mood board showing you how your shoot will look and feel ? This is a valuable part of my packages. I love to send clients a Pinterest board that will give my client an idea of how their shoot will look and an idea of the style of images they can expect from our shoot.

Most of all enjoy your photo shoot and have fun!
